Im Juni 2017 kam mein zweites Enkelkind Christoph zur Welt.
Da ich für mein erstes Enkelkind Katherina das Werk „Pictures of a New Life“ komponiert habe stand fest, auch für Christoph werde ich einen musikalischen Willkommensgruß schreiben.
Es entstand die „Overture of a New Life“.
Wenn man glaubt, dass man diesem Ereignis mit Routine und Gelassenheit entgegentritt irrt man sich. Es ist genauso spannend, aufregen und berührend wie beim ersten Mal. All dies soll auch in der Musik dieser Komposition zum Ausdruck kommen.
Nach einer kurzen festlichen Fanfare geht es dynamisch in den ersten Teil.
Dieser dynamische Hauptteil ist von einem achttaktigen Thema geprägt, dem zwei kontrastierende Melodien gegenübergestellt werden. Wie in einem Rondo wechseln sich diese musikalischen Elemente mehrmals ab.
Im Mittelteil breitet sich ein Wiegenlied aus, dass an Johannes Brahms erinnern soll. Behütet von der ganzen Familie soll dieser junge Mensch seinen Weg ins Leben finden. Ein buntes harmonisches Gefüge soll zeigen, dass dieser Weg ins Leben vielfältig und farbenreich sein kann.
In der Reprise zeigt sich wieder der Rondo-artige Aufbau. In einem großen klanglichen Finale werden die Themen des ersten Teiles übereinandergelegt und so zu einem beeindruckenden Höhepunkt geführt.
Die Eröffnungsfanfare rundet das Werk ab, das mit dem Hauptmotiv dynamisch und schwungvoll zu Ende geht.

In June 2017, my second grandchild, Christoph, was born.
Since I had composed the piece Pictures of a New Life for my first grandchild, Katherina, it was clear that I would also write a musical welcome greeting for Christoph.
Thus, the Overture of a New Life was created.
If one thinks that such an event can be approached with routine and calmness, one is mistaken. It is just as exciting, moving, and touching as the first time. All of this is intended to be reflected in the music of this composition.
After a short festive fanfare, the piece enters dynamically into the first section.
This dynamic main section is characterized by an eight-bar theme, which is contrasted by two contrasting melodies. Like in a rondo, these musical elements alternate several times.
In the middle section, a lullaby unfolds, meant to evoke Johannes Brahms. Protected by the whole family, this young person is to find his way into life. A colorful harmonic structure is intended to show that this path into life can be diverse and full of color.
The rondo-like structure reappears in the reprise. In a grand, sonorous finale, the themes from the first section are layered on top of each other and brought to an impressive climax.
The opening fanfare rounds off the work, which ends dynamically and spiritedly with the main motif.
