Mit viel Enthusiasmus zieht er ins Gefecht und erlebt schnell die Wirren und Grausamkeiten der Schlacht. Dass dies nicht das Leben sein kann wird ihm schnell bewusst.
Als er den Flug der Schwalben beobachtet, entschließt er sich sein Glück wo anders zu versuchen und wandert aus. In der neuen Welt angekommen, nimmt er sein Glück mit viel Einsatz erneut in die Hand.
Die Erinnerung an den Krieg ist nur noch schattenhaft vorhanden.
An Irish Tale is based on three Irish folk songs—The Minstrel Boy, The First Swallow, and The Emigrants—and tells the story of a young infantry drummer in the British Army.
With great enthusiasm, he marches into battle but soon experiences the chaos and cruelty of war. He quickly realizes that this cannot be the life for him.
As he watches the flight of the swallows, he decides to seek his fortune elsewhere and emigrates. Upon arriving in the New World, he takes his fate into his own hands once again with great effort.
The memory of the war remains only as a faint shadow.
